Youth Programs

Solvang Parks and Recreation offers multiple youth programs for children of all ages. Pre-registration is required for all programs. Please register here or call (805) 688-7529 to register with a credit card.  Please note, our offices are currently closed temporarily due to COVID-19.

American Red Cross Certified Babysitters Training
Mon-Wed, June 7, 8, 9, 9am-12pm, Ages 11+, $150, Solvang Vets Hall
Training covers basic infant and child care, bottle feeding, age appropriate activities, professionalism, safety and starting a babysitting business. Must attend all 3 days to receive certificate, take home book included.  Parent or guardian drop off and pick-up signature required.  Register here

American Red Cross CPR/First Aid for Youth
Thurs, June 10, 9am-1pm (one day only), Ages 13-17 (younger ages permissible with previous CPR certification), $50
This course is geared for young child care providers that may have taken a babysitter training in the past.  A book is provided to use during class but not included. Hand outs for take away will be provided. Red Cross certification in Pediatric CPR and First Aid is awarded at end of the class. Register here

Skateboarding Camp
Mon-Fri, June 7-11; June 21-25*, July 19-23*, $70/week
Beginner 9-10am
Intermediate 10-11am

*no intermediate class offered
Bring skateboard, helmet, knee and elbow pads.  Beginners will learn standing, pushing, stopping and small ramps by week's end.  Intermediate skaters (June 7-11 only) will improve skills and better navigate the park as well as tricks, turns and ramps.  Register here

Challenger Soccer Camp
Mon-Fri June 7-11 and/or July 26-30, register:
Ages 2-4: 8-9am, $95

The Challenger International Soccer Camp reflects the truly global nature of the sport today and provides young players with a wide variety of coaching styles, practices, and influences that will help them develop a well-rounded skill set.

Kung Fu Camp
Mon-Fri, June 7-11, 9am-12pm, ages 5-7, $160, Solvang Vets Hall

Students will work on the basics of martial arts while learning basic self-defense, footwork and body strengthening techniques.  Taught by Kung Fu instructor Chris Milner. Register here

SYVTRP Horse Camp
MWF, June 14, 16, 18, 9am-12pm, Ages 6-12, $225
Join the certified instructors from the SYV Therapeutic Riding Program for riding camp for all Valley kids!  Camp includes western horseback riding instruction, horsemanship and a craft.   Camp is held at SYV Equestrian Center, 195 Refugio Rd.  All participants must wear closed toed shoes and pants.  Helmets are provided.  Register here

American Girl Doll Camp
Tues-Wed, June 22-23, 1-3pm, $80, Ages 6+, Vets Hall
Make a craft and accessories for your American Girl!  Enjoy a tea party and pajama party with your special doll!  Plus, special hair up-do’s!  Bring your American Girl doll or any 18” doll to camp.  Snacks provided.  Register here

Pokeman Engineering Using Lego Materials
Mon-Fri, July 12-16, 9am-12pm, Ages 5-10, Vets Hall, $170
Join Ash and Pikachu as you build, capture, train, and explore the vast world of Pokémon with tens of thousands of LEGO® parts. Design your own Poké Balls, explore the Kanto region, and fly with Charizard.  Explore engineering through the fun world of Pokémon with the guidance of a Play-Well instructor.  Register here

Minecraft Engineering Using Lego Materials

Bring Minecraft to life using tens of thousands of LEGO® parts! Build engineer-designed projects such as a Creeper, a Lava Trap, and a Minecart. Create your favorite Minecraft mobs, tools, and objects with the guidance of an experienced Play-Well instructor.  Register here

Wood Working Camp

Join local hobbyist and craftsman Dennis Beebe to learn the fundamentals of woodworking, including the safe use of a variety of basic hand tools.  The students will measure, cut and assemble a complete project to take home by week’s end. Register here

Slime Camp

DIY slime for some ooey, gooey fun!  Leave the mess to us in making the slime, but we’ll be sure to send your child home with their own slime!  Dress for the mess!  Register here

ONE Soccer School Elite Camp

These 5 day programs are professional, structured and focused on playing, learning, improvement and having FUN with qualified international coaching staff that are passionate about making a difference in the athletes life both on and off the field.

Jr Chef Cooking Camp
July 28-29, Wed/Thurs, 1-3pm, Ages 6+, $80, Vets Hall
Learn the basics of preparing and cooking a meal, plus kitchen safety.  Make a meal from start to finish using fresh, local ingredients and then eat what you create. Register here
