[ARCHIVED] Fredensborg CYn Road closed to thru traffic

Dear Solvang Residents, Specialty Construction (SCI) will be installing a new 10” water main for Fredensborg Canyon Rd on weekdays from approximately May 1st, 2023, through June 16th, 2023. The construction zone will be located on Fredensborg Canyon from Chalk Hill Road up to Viborg Road. In the interest of public safety, this section of Fredensborg Canyon Road will be closed to thru traffic between the hours of 7:30AM and 4:30PM and will only remain open to residents that live within the construction zone during those hours on the weekdays listed above.

Fredensborg Canyon is an exceptionally narrow road with plenty of blind curves where drivers regularly travel above the posted speed limit. With SCI utilizing heavy equipment which will take up more than half the roadway during working hours, there is a significant likelihood of accidents or injury to either Solvang motorists or Specialty Construction’s crew if the road were remained open to the general public during construction hours. It is because of this that the City of Solvang has agreed to allow this temporary road closure to those living outside the construction zone during the hours of 7:30AM-4:30PM on approximately May 1st, 2023 to June 16th, 2023.

Detour signs will be placed on the adjacent streets which will direct motorists to the other side of Fredensborg Canyon Road by means of an alternate route. Additionally, Construction Message Boards will be placed on streets leading to the construction zone to notify drivers of the road work ahead and allow them adequate time to follow the detour signs.

This project will greatly improve the functionality and reliability of Fredensborg Canyon’s water services. We appreciate your understanding and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Please plan accordingly and let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
